Kiren Chauhan

About

Kiren grew up moving around the US. She went to Smith College and graduated with a BA in Government in 2012. After college she worked as an AmeriCorps Paralegal in upstate New York, mostly on domestic violence cases. After AmeriCorps she worked for Kaplan as an LSAT instructor. 

Finishing her first year at William and Mary, Kiren plans to work in Uganda for the summer for USAID’s Supporting Access to Justice, Fostering Equity and Peace (SAFE). This project is a five-year development program, whose objective is to strengthen the Ugandan's Government capacity with respect to peace-building and conflict mitigation. The program intends to enhance the capacity of local actors, strengthen mechanisms for resolving and mitigating conflicts related to land, address residual effects of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) conflict in northern Uganda, and transform emerging conflicts into peaceful outcomes. As part of the program, Kiren will be helping to resolve land disputes, as well as working with the refugee community to help them incorporate into Ugandan life.
